Before the war

He was born in 1832/33 (5 (28 in 1861)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 7 November 1861 (1, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by C L Zinn (?) (5). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 6, 7).

He was promoted to corporal on 20 May 1862, replacing Charles Burket (3).

He was discharged at camp near Falmouth, Virginia, on 6 February 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2 [5 Feb], 4, 5). He was a corporal in company H (1, 2, 6, 7).
