He was born in 1838/39 (3 (22 in 1861), 4 (22 in 1861)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4).

When he enlisted, he was a sailor, and was living in Philadelphia (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and black hair (3 [5'5", dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair], 4 [5'6-1/2", dark complexion, grey eyes, black hair]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 1 October 1861 (1, 3, 4, 70). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Keyser (3, 4). He was mustered in as a private (3). He was a private in company B (1, 11 (co. C)).

He was transferred to company C (1, 3).

On 16 May 1863, he was assigned as a guard at Division Headquarters (2).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 26 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 3).

He was absent, sick in hospital, when the regiment mustered out (1, 3).

He was discharged on 1 October 1865 (6). He was a private, in company C (11).

After the war

On 29 March 1888, he unsuccessfully applied for a pension (7, 10).

In 1890, he was living at 242 Pine Street, Camden, New Jersey (6).

On 5 March 1897, he died (8, 9). Invited to the funeral were members of the John A Logan Post, No. 162 Grand Army of the Republic, and the New Jersey Lodge, No. 1, International Order of Muscovites (9). On 9 March 1897, he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Camden, Camden County, New Jersey (8, 9). He was buried from his late residence, 242 Pine Street, Camden, New Jersey (8, 9).

COCHRAN.--On March 5, 1897, John Cochran, aged 57 years. The relatives and friends of the family, also John A. Logan Post, No. 102, G.A.R., also New Jersey Lodge, No. 1, I.O.M., also Company C, Ninety-first Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, on Tuesday 9th inst., at 1 o'clock, from his late residence 242 Pine street, Camden, N.J. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
