He was wounded at Shepherdstown, West Virginia, on 20 September 1862 (3).
He deserted from the hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 1 April 1862 (2). He was caught on 15 August 1864 (2). Thirty dollars was paid (presumably as a reward for his capture) (2).
He was tried by general court martial (2). He was sentenced to forfeit all pay and allowances due him, to forfeit ten dollars per month for twenty months, and to make good the time he had lost by deserting (2).

He died of arterio-capillary fibrosis [?], in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1904 (6, 7). He was a laborer (7). He was married (7). On 27 July 1904, he was buried at American Mechanics Cemetery (7).
On 3 August 1904, his widow, Mary E E Davenport, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).
