Before the war

In 1850, he was living in ward 1, Southwark, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his presumed wife Mary. He was a poller [??]. [source: 10]

On 7 August 1856, his infant daughter died, of hydrocephalus, at the corner of 11th and South streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 11]

In 1860, he was living in the 4th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his presumed wife Mary, and with their presumed children Kate, Harry, and Lewis Dolaway. He was a jeweller. [source: 4]

When he enlisted, he was a jeweler. [source: 2]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He also served in company A of the 41st Pennsylvania. [sources: 3, 12]

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a recruit, for three years, on 20 January 1864 or 26 January 1684, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was enlisted by Lieutenant Shipley, and mustered into service by Lieutenant Burke. He was a private in company E. [sources: 1 (20 Jan), 2 (26 Jan), 13, 14]

He was wounded in the hand while charging the enemy, on 18 June 1864 or 23 June 1864, at Petersburg, Virginia . [sources: 1 (18 June), 2 (23 June)]

He was absent at muster out. He was a private, in company E. [sources: 1, 13, 14]

After the war

On 6 October 1865, he successfully applied for a pension. [sources: 3, 12]

In 1870, he was living in ward 4, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his presumed wife Mary, and presumed children Kate, William H, and Lewis. He was a jeweller, and owned $100 in real estate. [source: 8]

On 5 December 1873, he died, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of typhoid fever. He was a jeweler. He was buried from his late residence, 709 South Third Street, ward 4, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Lafayette Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [sources: 5, 6, 7]

On 1 April 1874, his widow unsuccessfully applied for a pension. [sources: 3, 12]

In 1880, his widow, Mary Dolloway, was living at 241 [??] Bainbridge Street, ward 4, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son Lewis. [source: 9]

DOLLAWAY.--On the 5th inst., JOHN H. DOLLAWAY, son-in-law of the late John Frischknicht, in the 55th year of his age.

The relatives and friends of the family, also Company E, Gregory's Regiment, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, from his late residence, No. 709 S. Third street, this (Monday) afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Interment at Lafayette Cemetery.
