Before the war

He was born in 1832/33, in Denighal [Donegal??] Ireland. [sources: date: 2 (28 in 1861), 6 (muster-out roll has '38'). place: 2]

When he enlisted, he was a coach man. [source: 2]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, had a light complexion, grey eyes, and light hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He was mustered into service as a private in company K on 19 October 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to the company E descriptive roll, he enlisted for three years on 27 September 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was enlisted by Captain Lentz (!), and was mustered in by Dye, USA. He was transferred on 24 December 1861 to company E. [sources: 1, 6, 8]

He fought in the battle of Gettysburg, where he was wounded on 3 July 1863. [sources: 1, 4]

He was reported returned to duty from hospital on 11 March 1864. [source: 7]

On 18 April 1864, Andrew Brown (C) wrote to his father and sister that Harvey and others were doing well 'and send their respects to their folks'. [source: 13]

On 28 April 1864, Andrew Brown (C) wrote to his father and sister that Andy Fleming had visited; he had received his father's letter, and was doing well. [source: 12]

On 14 June 1864, Andrew Brown (C) wrote to his father and sister that Andy Fleming and others were doing well. [source: 14]

On 17 June 1864, Andrew Brown (C) wrote to his father and sister that Andy Flemind was doing well and sent his respects 'to his father and his most perticular [sic] friend'. [source: 15]

When discharged, he was detailed as a hospital attendant. [source: 5]

He mustered out on 9 September 1864, at Weldon Railroad, Virginia, when his term expired. He was a private, in company E. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 10, 11]
