On 25 September 1861, he is listed on a company C muster-in roll. [source: 2]

He was discharged by order of Court of Quarter Sessions on a writ of habeas corpus, because he was underage, and had enlisted without his parents' consent. [source: 2]

He was listed on a company muster roll dated 31 October 1861, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but his name was crossed out. [source: 2]

A Marks Fogel enlisted in company I of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry. Perhaps he is the same person. He was mustered in on 23 August 1862. He was wounded on 7 May 1864, at Wilderness, Virginia, and died of those wounds on 15 May 1864. [sources: 3, 4, 6 (1863)]

After the war

On 11 June 1864, Susanna Leese, widow of the Mark Fogel who served in the 118th Pennsylvania, applied for a pension under the Act of 14 July 1862. She was 19 years old. (They were married on 6 March 1862, and had no children.) She was living in Camden, New Jersey; her post-office address was 251 Pine Street, Camden. Her application was approved on 17 November 1866, and she received $8 per month, retroactive to 16 May 1864. [sources: 5, 6-7]
