Before the war

In 1850, he was living in Turbot Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with Philip and Sarah Foust (presumably his parents) and others (9). He had attended school within the year (9).

In 1860, he was living in Turbot Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with Philip and Sarah Foust (presumably his parents) and others (10).

When he enlisted, he was a boatman (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8-1/4 inches tall, and had a light complexion, light eyes, and light hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 25 October 1861 (1, 3, 4, 12). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hall (3). He was a private in company F (1, 12, 14 (sgt), 15 (sgt)).

He was discharged at Franklin Square Barracks, Washington DC, on 5 April 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability, because of the effects of a gun shot (1, 2, 3, 4, 12). He was a private, in company F (14, 15).

After the war

He married Mary Elizabeth Yost (5). They probably had at least three children, including:

In 1870, he was living in Milton Borough, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Mary, and with Emma, Ellis, and Mary (presumably their children) (6). He was a laborer, and owned $800 in real estate and $200 in personal property (6).

On 8 September 1877, he applied successfully for a pension (4, 13).

In 1880, he was living in South Ward, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Mary, and children Emma and Ellis (7). He was a laborer, and had been unemployed for 6 months in the previous year (7).

In 1890, he was living in Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (11).

In 1900, he was living at 431 Front [?] Street, ward 4, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his daughter Vernie [?] Lynde and her children (8). He was widowed (8). He was a laborer, and had been out of work for seven months in the previous year (8).

He died in 1905 (4). He was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Milton Borough, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (12).
