When he enlisted, he was a clerk (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and black hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 23 September 1861 (1, 2, 5, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (5). He was a private in company A (1, 12).

On 11 January 1863, he was discharged from a camp in the field on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 6 [10 Jan]). He was a private in copmany A (1, 4, 12).

After the war

He was married to Anna Sophie [unknown family name] (10).

He attended the 1884 meeting of the 91st's Survivor's Association (3).

He applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 18 May 1889 and on 2 March 1907 (2, 8 [1888]).

In 1890, he was living at 2338 or 2346 Turner, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6, 7). He was probably a driver (7).

He died on 1 June 1910, of nephritis comp[licated] with heart disease, at Stetson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2, 9, 10, 11). The funeral was held on Saturday, at Oliver H Bair Company (10). He was buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (9).
