David Garland

Before the war

He was born in August 1828 (8, 10; 2 (37 in 1865), 5 [31 in 1860], 6 [42 in 1870], 7 [50 in 1880], 8 [72 in 1900]). He was born in Pennsylvania (2, 5, 6, 7, 8).

In 1848/49, he married Susanna [unknown family name] (8). In 1900, she had had seven children, five of whom were alive (8).

In 1860, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Susan, and with Albert, William, Emmanetta [?], Anna, and Sarah (presumably their children) (5). He was a teamster, and owned $800 in real estate and $500 in personal property (5).

When he enlisted, he was a teamster (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 16 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 9). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd (2). He was a private in company I (1, 10, 11).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 2, 3, 9). He was a private, in company I (11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Susan, and with Albert, William, Everett, Sarah, and Calvin (presumably their children) (6). He was a farmer, and owned $3,000 in real estate and $800 in personal property (6).

In 1880, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Susannah, and his children William, Annie, Catherine, Calvin, and Gertrude (7). He was a farmer (7).

In 1890, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (post office Olivia) (3).

On 12 September 1891, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 9).

In 1900, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Susannah, and daughters Annie and Gertrude (8). He was a farmer (8).

On 25 [?] February 1907, he again applied for a pension (9).

He died on 25 December 1909 (9, 10). He was buried in Bald Eagle Cemetery, Tyrone, Blair County, Pennsylvania (10).
