He was born in 1812/14 (3 (44 in 1861), 5 (50 in 1862), 6 (36 in 1850), 7 (48 in 1860)). He was born in Ireland (3, 6, 7) or Philadelphia (5).
In 1850, he was living in the 3rd ward, Kensington, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Ann (apparently his wife) and David and John (apparently their children), along with William Gilligan (6). He was a warper (6).
In 1860, he was living in the 17th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with Anne (apparently his wife), and David, John, and Sarah (apparently their children), along with many other people (7). He was a warper (7).
When he enlisted, he was a weaver (3).
When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, gray eyes, and dark hair (3).
He was enlisted and mustered into service on 14 September 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Starr, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He was a private in company F (1, 8, 9).
He died by drowning, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 20 November 1861 (1, 2, 3) or 17 February 1862 ( 4, 5 [found on 17 February]). He had last been paid through 31 October 1862 by Major Gibson (2). (Given the evidence, the February date seems much more likely--but perhaps he went missing in November and his body was found only in February.) He was a private, in company F (8, 9). The funeral was Wednesday, 19 February 1862, from his late residence, 1427 North Fourth Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4, 5 [20 Feb]). He was buried in the West Street Burying Ground (4, 5).
