Before the war

He was born on 3 October 1841 (5, 12; 3 (23 in 1864), 9 [18 in 1860], 10 [27 in 1870], 11 [38 in 1880], 12 [58 in 1900], 13 [68 in 1910]). He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13). He was born to Uriah Gordon and Rachel Elizabeth Ritchey (5).

In 1850, he was living with his parents, in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (8). He had attended school within the year (8).

In 1860, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his parents Uriah and Rachel Gordon, along with siblings (9). He had no occupation (9).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He may have also served in company E of the 138th Pennsylvania Infantry (5 [which mentions the 138th PA but not the 91st PA]).

He was drafted (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1, 3). He enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3). His service was credited to the 16th Congressional District (3). He was a private in company G (1, 16).

He was discharged at Washington, DC, on 20 January 1865 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 4). He was a private, in company G (16).

After the war

He married (1) Mary Mock (5). They had four children (5):

In 1870, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Margaret, and children Malachi and Barabara (10). He was a farmer, and owned real estate worth $2,000, and personal property worth $300 (10).

On 11 November 1877, he married (2) Emma Corle, in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5, 12, 13). In 1900, she had had four children, three of whom were alive; in 1910, two of her four children were alive (12, 13). They had four children (5):

On 27 June 1879, he applied successfully for a pension (6, 15).

In 1880, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his (second) wife Emma, and children Malachi, Barbara Anne, Sarah Ellen, Thomas Miles, and Savanna (11). He was a farmer (11).

In 1890, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (post office Paris, Bedford County, PA) (7).

In 1900, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his wife Emma and daughters Maude and Carrie (12). He was a farmer (12).

In 1910, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Emma, and daughters Maudie and Carrie (13). He was a farmer, on a general farm (13).

He again applied for a pension on 12 October 1911 (15).

He died on 3 March 1913, in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5, 15). He was buried in Pavia Cemetery, Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5).

On 25 March 1913, his widow, Emma Gordon, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 15).

In 1920, his widow, Emma Gordon, was living in East St Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (14).

Emma Gordon died on 25 May 1927, in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5). She was buried in the Pavia Cemetery, Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5).
