91st PA: Daniel M Greenig

Daniel M Greenig

Before the war

He was born in October 1845 (6; 3 (18 in 1861), 5 (35 in 1880), 6 (54 in 1900), 7 (65 in 1910), 8 (75 in 1920)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a light complexion, light eyes, and light hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 2 December 1861 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by C L Zinn (3). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 3, 13, 14, 15).

In November 1861, he was discharged at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on writ of habeas corpus, probably because he was a minor (1, 2, 3, 4 [1 Aug 62]). He was a private, in company H (13, 14, 15).

On 6 July 1863, he enlisted in the 59th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers (10). He was in company F (10). He was discharged on 9 September 1863 (10). He was then fourth sergeant (10).

After the war

In 1865/1866, he married Emma [unknown family name] (6, 7). In 1900 and 1910, she had had six children, three of whom were alive (6, 7).

In 1880, he was living at 707 Belgrade Street, 18th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Emma, children Alfred, Daniel, and John, and mother Sarrah Harden (5). He worked in sewing machines (presumably as a dealer, given his 1900 occupation) (5).

In 1890, he was living at 707 Belgrade Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9).

In 1900, he was living at 707 Belgrade Street, 18th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Emma and children Daniel and Nellie (6). He was a sewing machine dealer (6).

On 17 April 1906, he applied unsuccessfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 11). (I assume his application was unsuccessful because he did not serve at least ninety days.)

In 1910, he was living at 707 Belgrade Street, 18th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Emma and Daniel (7). He was living on his own income (7).

In 1920, he was living at 1526 Susquehanna Avenue, 18th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Emma and son Daniel (8). He was a store keeper (8).

On 4 March 1925, he died, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10, 12). He was buried in Palmer Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10).
