He was born in Armstrong [County], Pennsylvania (4, 9, 10, 11, 13). He was born on 8 March 1827 (5, 11, 15; 4 (39 in 1864), 9 (42 in 1870), 10 (55 in 1880), 11 (73 in 1900), 13 (23 in 1850).
In 1847/48, he married Mary Anne Anthony (11, 15). She was born in 1828/1829, to William Anthony and Christiana Alspaugh (15, 16). They apparently had thirteen children, including these (9, 10, 11 (9 alive in 1900), 12 (8 alive in 1910), 13):
In 1850, he was living in Franklin Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Mary, Mary (presumably their daughter), and Isabella George (13). He was a laborer (13).
When he enlisted, he was a labor[er] (4).
When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 3 inches tall, and had a sallow complexion, grey eyes, and grey hair (4).
He enlisted and was mustered into service on 19 September 1864 (1, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Alleghany City [?], Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Burke (4). He was mustered in as a private in company K (1, 17, 18).
He was discharged in the field, in Virginia, on 2 or 3 June 1865 by general order 77, War Department (1, 3 [2 Jun], 8 [3 Jun]). He was a private, in company K (17, 18).
In 1870, he was living in Union Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Mary, with (presumably their children) Elizabeth, William, AC, GB, Nancy, Jacob, Sarah, and Rinard, with Mary Wilson, and with Rinard Anthony (9). He was a laborer (9).
On 10 February 1879, he applied successfully for a pension (7, 14).
In 1880, he was living in Rose Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Mary, and with (presumably their children) William, Catharine, George, Tomo [??], Ellen, and Maggie, and with his granddaughter M C Beverly (10). He was a farmer (10).
In 1890, he was living in Eldred Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (6).
In 1900, he was living in Rose Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife Mary and granddaughter Mary Beverly (11). He was living on a farm, but apparently was not working (11).
He died on 1 December 1900 (5, 7, 15). He was buried in St Mary's Catholic Cemetery (Old Part), Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (5).
On 20 December 1900, his widow, Mary A Gregg, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (7, 14).
In 1910, his widow, Mary A Gregg, was living on Taylor Street, Brookville Borough, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (12). She was living with her granddaughter Mary Beverly (12).
On 22 January 1911, his widow, Mary A Gregg, died (16). She was buried in Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery (original), in Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania (16).
