During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 17 September 1861 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (3, 4). He was a private in company C (1, 5).

He deserted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 21 January 1862 (1, 2, 3, 4). The company C register of deserters reports his "whereabouts [were] not known" (2). He was a private, in company C (5).
