Before the war

He was born in 1836/37 (5 (24 in 1861), 6 [23 in 1860]). He was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (5, 6).

In 1860, he was living in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with John Colchower and his family (6). He was a master wheelright (6).

When he enlisted, he was a wheelw[right] (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 17 September 1861 (1, 4, 5, 7). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (5). He was mustered into service as second corporal, in company G (1, 4, 9).

He was promoted to fifth sergeant on 1 May 1862 (4).

He died of typhoid fever on 6 November 1862 at Sharpsburg, Maryland (1, 2 [9 Nov], 3 [6 Nov], 4 [6 Nov], 5 [6 Nov], 7 [6 Nov]). He was then a sergeant, in company G (1, 4, 9). He was buried in the Lower Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, in Eagleville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (2, 7, 8).

His belongings were inventoried on 25 November 1862 (3).
