Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 8 February 1864 (1, 3, 7, 10). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hildeburn (3). He was a private, in company A (1, 10, 11, 12).

On 17 August 1864, he was sick in the division hospital (8).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 3, 7, 10). He was a private, in company A (11, 12).

After the war

In 1864/65, he married Sarah [unknown family name] (9). In 1900, she had had 7 children, 4 of whom were alive (9).

In 1870, he was living in East Pikeland, Chester County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a farm laborer (6). He was living with Sarah (presumably his wife), and Lucy, Horatio Seymour, and Thomas (presumably their children) (6).

In 1880, he was living in West Vincent, Chester County, Pennsylvania (4). He was a horse dealer (4). He was living with his wife Sallie, and children Lucy, John, Thomas, Minnie, and Sarah (4).

He applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 16 July 1881 (2, 5).

In 1890, he was living in East Vincent, Chester County, Pennsylvania (post office Sheeder [?]) (7).

In 1900, he was living in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Sarah, and a laborer (9). He was a farmer (9).

On 30 November 1902, he died (5, 10). He was buried in Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania (10).

His widow, Sarah Hoskins, applied successfully for a pension from Pennsylvania on 17 December 1902 (2, 5).
