Before the war

He was born in 1822/23 (2 (38 in 1861), 4 (38 in 1861)). He was born in Denegall, Ireland (4).

When he enlisted, he was a lab[orer] (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-3/4 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair (2, 4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 October 1861 (1, 2, 4, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Keyser (2, 4, 5). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He was a private in company B (1, 6).

He was transferred to company C (1, 2).

He deserted on 21 January 1862, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The company C register of deserters reports his "whereabouts [were] not known" (3). The company C descriptive roll includes an address, 212 William St; perhaps he was supposed to be there (4). He was a private, in company C (6).
