Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2). He had marks from small pox (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 2 September 1861 (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (2, 3). He was a private in company C (1, 5, 7).

He was killed on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia (1, 2 [missing in action], 3). He was a private, in company C (5, 7).

After the war

On 19 October 1893, his father, Edward M Johnson, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 6).
