Before the war

He was born in 1841/42 (5 (22 in 1864), 6 (22 in 1864)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5, 6).

When he enlisted, he was a ship carpenter (5, 6).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair (5, 6).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 29 March 1864, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 5, 6, 8). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (5, 6). He was mustered by Lieutenant Hilderman (5, 6). He was owed $300 bounty (5, 6). He was a private in company B (1, 9, 13).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer (1).

He was absent without leave beginning 7 October 1864 (10). He was reported returned on 12 October 1864 (11).

On 2 December 1864, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 December 1864 (2; see also 4, 6).

On 27 April 1865, he was promoted to sergeant, effective 1 April 1865 (3).

Something--perhaps his equipment--was turned in to the Captain, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (7).

He was absent, on furlough, when the regiment mustered out (1). He was a sergeant, in company B (1, 9, 13).

After the war

On 1 December 1891, he successfully applied from New York for a pension (8, 9).

He died on 10 March 1897 (8).
