Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 September 1864 (1, 3) or 27 September 1864 (2, 4 [8 Oct], 8 [8 Oct]). He enlisted for one year, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (2, 3). His enlistment was credited to the fourteenth congressional district (2, 3). He was a private in company C (1, 11, 12).

He was discharged by general order on 11 May 1865 (1, 4, 7 [surgeon's certificate], 8). He was a private, in company C (11, 12).

After the war

On 15 May 1865, he applied successfully for a pension (6, 8).

In 1880, he was living in Lack Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Elizabeth and children John, William, Catharine, and Mary (5). He was a farm laborer (5).

In 1890, he was living in Lack Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania (post office: Perce [?] Mills) (4).

He again applied for a pension on 15 May 1909 (8).

On 12 January 1913, he died, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania (8, 9, 10). He was buried in Cross Keys Methodist Cemetery, Juniata County, Pennsylvania (9).
