Two Emanuel Mack's of approximately the right age lived in Philadelphia.+ One was born in Germany; the other in Philadelphia. The one born in Germany had a child who died in 1870, buried in Glenwood Cemetery. One of the Emanuel Mack's was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, on 18 April 1884. Since according to the National Soldier Home reports claims the Mack who served in the 91st was born in Pennsylvania, I have assumed the Philadelphia-born Mack is the one who served in the 91st. Perhaps the coincidence of the burial places of the Mack who died in 1884 (unlike the Mack who died in the 91st) and of the German-born Mack's child provides some support for that assumption. (See the end of the "Sources" for references for the German-born Mack.)
He was born in 1818/19 (2 (42 in 1861), 3 (75 in 1894), 4 (75 in ?1894), 6 (52 in 1880), 7 (62 in 1880), 9 (32 in 1850)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3, 4, 6, 7, 9).
In 1850, he was living in Cedar Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with Mary Ann Mack (presumably his wife), and with Hannah Mack (presumably his daughter) (9). He was a carpenter (9).
He enlisted and was mustered into service on 27 September 1861 (1, 2, 8). He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He was mustered in at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I (1, 2, 11).
He was discharged by general order on 31 May 1865 (1, 2, 8). He had served for fortyfour months (3, 4). He was a private, in company I (11).
In 1870, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was a carpenter (6). He was living with his wife Mary and with Florence and Savage [?] (presumably their children) (6).
In 1880, he was living at 1630 Sanderson Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was a carpenter (7). He was living with his wife Mary (7).
In 1890, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10).
On 10 July 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 8).
On 6 February 1894, he was admitted to the National Soldiers Home (3, 4). In 1894, he was present in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (3). He was admitted from Pennsylvania (3, 4). He had a defect of vision (3, 4). He was receiving a pension of $12 per month (3, 4).
He died on 16 May 1895, in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (4, 8).
