John D Mauch

Before the war

In 1861/62, he married Sarah A [unknown family name, perhaps 'Christ']. She was born in August 1840, in Pennsylvania. In 1900, she had had nine children, eight of whom were alive. Their children include:

In 1860, he was living in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was a farm laborer, and owned $200 in personal property. He was living with his (presumed) wife Sarah Ann, their (presumed) children Clayton and Mary Ann, and with Susan B Camerer. [source: 12]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-3/4 inches tall, and had a hazel complexion, dark eyes, and florid hair. [source: 3]

During the war

In June 1863, he registered for the draft. He was living in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer, and was married. [source: 11]

He was drafted. His service was credited to the Ninth Congressional District. He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 18 July 1863. He was in company G. He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Robinson. [sources: 1, 3, 8]

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania. He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania. [sources: 1, 2, 14]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He was a private, in company I. [sources: 1, 3, 8, 14]

After the war

In 1880, he was living in East Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer. He was living with his wife Sarah, and children Lizzie, Sarah, Ellen, Maggie, Henry, and Paris. [source: 5]

On 2 October 1888, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 4, 8]

In 1890, he was living in Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He had rheumatism in his lower limbs. [source: 7]

In 1900, he was living in Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was a church janitor. He was living with his wife Sarah. [source: 6]

In 1910, he was living in Coleraine Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer, on a general farm. He was supposedly married, but his spouse is not listed in the same household. [source: 13]

On 11 July 1910, he again applied for a pension. [source: 8]

He died on 21 November 1928, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He died of myocarditis and valvular heart disease. He was living at 120 Chester Street, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. On 24 November 1928, he was buried, in Union Presbyterian Cemetery, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 8, 9, 10]
