Before the war

He was born in 1840 (12; 2 (24 in 1863), 8 (21 in 1861)). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2).

When he enlisted, he was living in Philadelphia (8).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (2, 8).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, had a dark complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair (2, 8 [5'6", dark complexion, brown eyes, brown hair]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private in company E on 20 August 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 4, 8, 11, 13).

He fought in the battle of Gettysburg (5).

He re-enlisted for three years as a veteran volunteer at Bealton, Virginia, on 24 December 1863 (1, 2, 8 [26 Dec 63]). He was enlisted by Lieutenant Carpenter, and mustered into service by Lieutenant Swann (2).

On 1 March 1864, Colonel Gregory detached him to collect conscripts, at Philadelphia (6). He was reported returned on 22 April 1864 (9).

He was wounded in 1864, by 30 May 1864 (10).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4 [10 July], 8, 11). He was a private, in company E (13).

After the war

In 1890, he was living in Richland, Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey (4).

He successfully applied from New Jersey for a pension on 5 September 1890 (3, 11).

On 13 April 1898, he died (12). He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Vineland, Cumberland County, New Jersey (12).
