John Albert Peddicord

Before the war

He was born in May 1841 (10, 11 (4 May 1840); 3 (40 in 1880), 4 (22 in 1865), 5 (10 in 1850), 6 (20 in 1860), 7 (30 in 1870), 10 (60 in 1900)). He was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania (3 (MD), 4, 5 (MD), 6 (MD), 7 (MD), 10 (MD), 11 (Emmitsburg MD)). He was born to Greenbury Peddicord and Maria Elizabeth Kipe (11).

He was baptized on 2 September 1847 (11).

In 1850, he was living in Frederick County, Maryland (5). He was living with Altha Peddicord (perhaps his grandmother), Maria Peddicord (presumably his mother), and Ann M Peddicord (presumably his sister) (5).

In 1860, he was living in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a farm hand, with John K Taylor (6).

When he enlisted, he was a miller (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, hazel eyes, and sandy hair (4).

During the war

He also served in company C of the 165th Pennsylvania infantry (8, 9). He enlisted on 16 September 1862 (9). He was discharged on 28 July 1863 [?] (9).

He was drafted (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 February 1865 (1, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster (4). His enlistment was credited to the sixteenth congressional district (4). He was a private in company A (1, 16).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (2). He was a private, in company A (16).

After the war

On 5 June 1866, he married Margaret Elizabeth Florence (10 [40 years in 1900], 11). She was born on 15 August 1849, in Maryland (13). In 1900, she reportedly had had four children, all of whom were alive (10).

In 1870, he was living in Carroll County, Maryland (7). He worked in a mill, and owned $150 in personal property (7). He was living with his (presumed) wife Margaret Peddicord, their (presumed) children Mary, Joseph, and Annie, and with James Taylor (7).

In 1880, he was a miller, living in Emmittsburg, Frederick County, Maryland (3). He was living with his wife, Margaret E Peddicord, and their children Joseph, Mary, Anna, Sallie, Stella, Addie, John, and Florence. His wife, Margaret E Peddicord, was 30, born in Maryland, and keeping house (3).

In 1890, he was living in Emmitsburg District, Frederick County, Maryland (9).

On 19 July 1890, he applied from Maryland for a pension (application 861,785), which he received (certificate 755,439) (2, 8).

In 1900, he was living in Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland (10). He was living with his wife Margaret, children Charley, Allan, Alice, and Ella, and a grandson Roy (10). He was a carpenter, and had been out of work for three months in the previous year (10).

On 17 January 1906, he died (8 [1906], 11 [17 Jan 1906]). He died in Waukegan, [Lake County,] Illinois (11).

On 27 July 1906, his widow, Margaret E. Peddicord, applied from Illinois for a pension (application 842,375), which she received (certificate 616,022) (2, 8).

In 1910, his widow, Margaret Peddicord, was living on New York, Waukegan Township, Lake County, Illinois (14). She was living with her children Charley, Rose, and Roy (14).

In 1920, his widow, Margaret E Peddicord, was living on New York, Waukegan Township, Lake County, Illinois (15). She was living with her son Charles and his family, and with Leroy (15).

On 13 March 1924, Margaret A Peddicord [?], wife of John A, died (12, 13). She died at 804 NY, Waukegon, Lake County, Illinois, to Florence Sebastian and Margaret Elin... (13). She was married to John A Peddicord (13). On 15 March 1924, she was buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Waukegon, Lake County, Illinois (12, 13).
