When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 1 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yerkes. He was a private in company D. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 7, 24]

He was admitted into McClellan US General Hospital on 2 May 1865. [source: 2]

He was discharged by general order on 23 June 1865. He was a private, in company D. [sources: 1, 3, 6, 7, 24]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with George and Emily Peterman (presumably his father and perhaps his stepmother?), and with William, Albert and Harry (presumably his siblings). He was a chair maker's apprentice. [source: 14]

He married Louisa Meredith, perhaps in 1873/74. She was born in 1852/53, in Pennsylvania. They had five known children:

He died of organic heart disease (mitral) (duration 1 year), with arteriosclerosis (duration 10 years) contributing. He was not working. On 14 April 1921, he was buried in Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Invited to the funeral were members of Moscosco [?] Tribe Number 31, IOORM [sc. ?
