Henry Phelps

Before the war

He was born in 1839/40 (2 (23 in 1863)).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2). He was mustered into service as a private in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 17 July 1863 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3 [10 Jul]). He was in company D of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (5).

He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania on 1 June 1865 (1, 2). He was a private in company F of the 91st (1, 7).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 2 [absent sick]). He was a private, in company F (7). He was discharged on 17 July 1865 (3).

After the war

In 1880, he was living at 42 North 9th [?] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He was living with his children Alice, James, Elizabeth, and Josephine, and a servant (4). (Why Josephine, and perhaps Elizabeth, have different parents' birthplaces is unclear.) He was a locksmith (4).

In 1890, he was living at 806 Reed Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3).

On 24 July 1890, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).

He again applied for a pension on 23 February 1907 (5).

On 19 May 1915, he died, at Wenonah [?], [Gloucester County,] New Jersey (5).

On 10 June 1915, his widow, Elizabeth Phelps, successfully applied from New Jersey for a pension (5, 6).
