Benjamin Price

Before the war

He was born in 1842/43 (4 (20 in 1863), 10 (6 in 1850), 11 (23 in 1870)). He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (4, 10, 11).

In 1850, he was living in Marietta, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with Betsey Price (presumably his mother), and with others (perhaps siblings?) (10). He had attended school within the year (10).

When he enlisted, he was a labo[rer] (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 3 inches tall, and had a light complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (4).

During the war

He also served in company H of the 135th Pennsylvania Infantry (5, 6).

He was a substitute (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 17 July 1863 (1, 4). He was in company E of the 118th Pennsylvania (6). He was enlisted at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, by Captain Bolianas [?] (4).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 3). He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 7).

On 1 June 1865, he began a furlough (2, 4). He returned when it expired, on 21 June 1865 (2, 4).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4). He was a private, in company I (7).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with Elizabeth Price (presumably his mother), and with another person (11). He was a laborer (11).

He was buried in the village cemetery in Marietta, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (9). The government supplied a headstone; the contract was dated 29 November 1879 (9).

In 1880, his widow, Margaret Price, was living in Marietta, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (12). She was living with her children Caroline and Henry Price (12).

In 1890, his widow, Margaret Price, was living in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania (post office Lionville) (8). She had applied for a pension (8).

On 7 March 1891, his widow, Margaret Price, unsuccessfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).
