Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 July 1863 (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted for three years (2). His enlistment was credited to the fourth congressional district (2). He served as a private in company C of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (3, 5).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 3). He was a private in company C of the 91st Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 6).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1). He was a private, in company C (6).

After the war

On 18 November 1889, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5).

He again applied for a pension on 18 February 1907 (5).

a William Rambo is living in Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, with no identifying information. However, the Pennsylvania Veterans' Burial Cards (available on Ancestry, accessed 3 December 2010) have a William Rambo, who died in 1909 and was buried in Chester County, and who served in company K of the 25th Pennsylvania
