Before the war

He was born on 22 December 1840 (4, 5, 14; 3 (23 in 1863), 6 (19 in 1860), 7 (30 in 1870), 8 (30 sic in 1880), 9 (69 in 1910), 12 (9 in 1850)). He was born in Monroe County, Pennsylvania (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12). He was born to Johannes Rinker and Margaret Pensyl (4, 5).

In 1860, he was living in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his parents and siblings (6). He was a farm laborer (6).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted (1). His service was credited to the Eleventh Congressional District of Pennsylvania (3). He was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 2 March 1863 (1). He was in company E of the 118th Pennsylvania (11). He enlisted for three years, in Monroe County, Pennsylvania (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2, 11 [1 June]). He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 15).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 11). He was a private, in company I (15).

After the war

On 21 October 1866, he was married to Julia Ann Singer (4, 5). They had eight children (5):

In 1870, he was living in Jackson, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Julia and children Austin and Mary (7). He was a laborer, and owned $100 in personal property (7).

In 1880, he was living in Paradise Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Julia and children Oscar, Wallace, John, Hattie, and Sarah (8). He was a laborer (8).

In 1886, he was married to Caroline Emma [unknown family name] (4, 5, 9 [24 years in 1910]).

On 16 July 1890, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (10, 11).

In 1910, he was living at 543 Ann [?] Street, Stroudsburg Borough, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his second wife Caroline, daughter Emma, and her daughter Myrtle (9). He was living on his own income (9).

On 24 December 1910, he again applied for a pension (11).

He died on 12 April 1916, in Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (4, 5, 11, 14). He was buried in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (14).

On 24 April 1916, his widow, Emma C Rinker, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (10, 11).

In 1920, his widow, Emma C Rinker, was living on Route 168, Stroud Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (13). She was living with Jerome and Flora Kuntner (her child and in-law) and their daughter Dorothy (13).

On 8 May 1920, his widow, Caroline Rinker, died (14). She was buried in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (14).
