Solomon Siglin

Before the war

He was born on 5 September 1834 (8 [Sep 1835], 10, 11; 3 (28 in 1863), 7 (45 in 1880), 8 (65 in 1900), 12 (16 in 1850), 13 (25 in 1860), 14 (35 in 1870)). He was born in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania (7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14). (Because Pennsylvania has multiple Pine Grove's, I do not know in which county he was born.) He was born to Philip Siglin and Susan Bosner (10, 11).

In 1850, he was living in Covington [Township], Luzerne (now Lackawanna) County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his parents Philip and Susanna Siglin, and with Daniel, Elizabeth, Henry, George, Philip, and Susanna Siglin (12).

On 3 April 1859, he married Mary Ann Doran, in Clifton, [Luzerne County (now Lackawanna County)], Pennsylvania (8, 10, 11). She had 8 children, 7 of whom were alive in 1900 and 1910 (8, 9, 11).

In 1860, he was living in Covington, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Mary, Susanna (presumably his sister), and with Howard Sayler [?] and CW Reales (13). He was a laborer (13).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was mustered into service as a private on 14 October 1863 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4). He was in company B of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (5, 6).

He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 1 June 1865 (1, 3). He was a private in company F (1, 16-17).

On 22 June 1865, he went on a furlough, which expired on 7 July 1865 (2).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 3, 4). He was a private, in company F (16-17).

After the war

In, 1870, he was living in Covington Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (post office Clinton) (14). He was living with his wife Mary and children Charles, William, Elmer, and Alfred (14). He was working in a saw mill, and owned $100 in personal property (14).

Lackawanna County, including Covington Township, was formed in 1878.

In 1880, he was living in Clifton Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Mary and children Charles, William, Elmer, Alfred, Emma, Walter, and Catharine (7). He was a farmer (7).

On 20 Mar 1882, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).

In 1890, he was living in Clifton Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (4). He had had a gunshot wound in his head (4).

In 1900, he was living in Clifton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Mary, daughter Carrie, son Walter, and daughter-in-law Grace (8). He was a farmer (8).

On 18 July 1903, he died, in Clifton, [Lackawanna County,] Pennsylvania (10).

On 25 July 1903, his widow, Mary A Siglin, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).

In 1910, his widow Mary A Siglin was living on Spring Brook Road, Clifton Township, Lackawanna Township, Pennsylvania (9).

In 1920, his widow, Mary Siglin, was living in Gouldsboro Borough, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (15). She was living with her son Charles and his family (15).

Mary Siglin, his widow, died on 21 February 1925, in Clifton, Pennsylvania (10) or Goldsboro, Pennsylvania (11).
