91st PA: Samuel George Stine

Samuel George Stine

Before the war

He was born on 28 March 1826 (6, 10 (Mar 1827); 3 (38 in 1865), 7 (33 in 1860), 8 (43 in 1870), 9 (53 in 1880), 10 (73 in 1900), 11 (83 in 1910)). He was born in Pennsylvania (7, 8, 9, 10, 11). He was born to Samuel George Stine and Catherine Gray (6).

He married Anna Sisler (6). They had four (known) children (6, 7):

In 1860, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Anna M Stine, their children Eli, Mary Catharine, and Lloyd, and with Emeline Henderson (7). He was a farmer, and owned $600 in personal property (7).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 15 March 1865 (1, 3). He was mustered in as a private, in company B, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 12-13).

He may have been charged for lost equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (2).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3). He was a private, in company E (12-13).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Anna, and their children Eli, Mary, Lloyd, and Rose (8). He was a farmer, and owned $10,000 in real estate, and $2,218 in personal property (8).

In 1879/80, he married Lydia A [unknown family name] (10, 11). This was the second marriage for both of them (11). In 1900 and 1910, she had had five children, three of whom were alive (10, 11).

In 1880, he was living at 1216 Mifflin Street, ward 4, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his [second] wife Lydia, and with Andrew and Jainie [?] (presumably her children from her first marriage), and Lloyd (presumably his son) (9). He was a day laborer, and had been unemployed for 3 months in the previous year (9).

On 16 March 1888, and again on 27 [?] February 1907, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5 [1889 (sic)]).

In 1900, he was living at 1216 Mifflin Street, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Lydia (10). He was a day laborer, and had been unemployed for 10 months in the previous year (10).

He died on 1 [?] March 1915, at Huntingdon [?], Pennsylvania (4, 6 [5 March 1915]). He was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (6).

In 1910, he was living at 1216 Mifflin Street, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife, Lydia (11). He was a retired carpenter (11).

On 16 March 1915, Lydia A Stine, his widow, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5).

[The LDS index to the 1880 census has no Rose or Anna Stine in Huntingdon County, and this Lloyd is the only Lloyd Stine in Huntingdon County; Eli Stine is living with his wife and daughter. Further, according to the 1910 census, Samuel and Lydia were both married twice. I therefore believe this Samuel is the Samuel married to Anna in the 1860 and 1870 censuses]
