Noah Swank

Before the war

He was born in 1834/35 (3 (30 in 1865), 6 (15 in 1850), 7 (25 in 1860), 8 (35 in 1870)). He was born in Pennsylvania (6, 7, 8).

In 1850, he was living in Somerset Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Jacob and Catharine Swank (presumably his parents), and with Henry, Catharine, and Matilda (presumably his siblings (6). He was a farmer, and had attended school within the year (6).

In 1860, he was living in Somerset Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with Catharine Swank (presumably his mother), and with Catharine and Abraham Swank (presumably his siblings) (7).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 11 March 1865 (1, 3). He was mustered in as a private, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3). He was a private in company B (1, 10).

He may have been charged for a lost wrench, tompin, and equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (but the list does not have "to be charged" on his line) (2).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3). He was a private, in company B (10).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Somerset Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with Sarah (presumably his wife), with Jacob, Henry, and Benjamin (presumably his children), and with Catharine Swank (presumably his mother) (8). He was a farmer, and owned $2,000 in real estate and $500 in personal property (8).

He was buried in Beams [cemetery], Boswell RD #2, Somerset County, Pennsylvania (9).

On 1 [?] May 1881, George J Swank, a minor dependent, successfully applied for a pension (4, 5).
