Before the war

He was born in 1849 (6; 2 (18 in 1865), 3 (18 in 1865), 7 (70 in 1920), 10 (31 in 1880), 11 (69 in 1917)). He was born in New Jersey (2, 3, 6 (NY), 7 (NY), 10 (NY), 11 (NY)). He was born to Alfred Westcott and Lucinda Birdsley (6).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (2, 3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (2, 3).

During the war

He was a substitute for O [or G?] J Perrell or Pennell (1, 2, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 9). He was enlisted for one year, at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by Captain Blair (2, 3). His service was credited to the 48th subdivision of the 18th congressional district (2, 3). He was a private in company K (1, 11, 12).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 9). He had served for four months (11). He was a private, in company K (12).

After the war

He married (1) Ann Eliza Sutherland (6). They had two children (6):

In 1880, he was living in Bainbridge, Berrien County, Michigan (10). He was living with his wife Eliza and son Burrs [?] (10). He was a farmer (10).

In 1890, he was living in Bainbridge Township, Berrien County, Michigan (4).

On 2 August 1890, he applied successfully from Michigan for a pension (5, 9).

He married (2) Ada M Shippy, on 5 December 1900 (6). They had one child:

On 3 August 1909, he again applied for a pension (9).

In 1917, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (11). He was present in the Marion Branch (11). He was receiving a pension of $18 per month (11).

In 1920, he was living at 615 East Main, Benford Harbor City, Berrien County, Michigan (7). He was living with his wife Ada, stepson Delos See, and daughter Virginia Wescott (7). He was not working (7).

In 1930, he was living in the Michigan Soldiers Home, in Grand Rapids Township, Kent County, Michigan (8). He was not working, and was widowed (8).

He died on 17 April 1930, at Grand Rapids, Michigan (9).

On 24 May 1930, his widow, Ada Westcott, applied successfully from Michigan for a pension (5, 9).
