During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 9 October 1861 (1, 2). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 2, 3).

He was promoted to corporal (2).

He deserted on 11 December 1862, from Washington, DC (1, 2). He was a corporal in company I (1, 3).
