In 1860, he was living in ward 13 of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (18). He was a painter (18). He was living with Sarah Zane (perhaps his mother) and Hannah Conover (18)

He returned from duty at Brigade Headquarters on 20 March 1863 (8).

On (or effective) 17 June 1863, he was promoted to 2nd corporal of company A (12).
