This site is designed with the HARPER family researcher in mind. The goal is to share information and prove the individual HARPER lines. This site will grow and change as we receive input from you. If you would like to contribute primary source documentation, querys, or personal theories to this site, please send information (and permission to post) to Martha Marble . |
The study of the Greene County Harper family was started by Julia
Moseley Combs and others many years ago. Julia published a booklet on
part of the family and some of the documentation and notes she had
are included in this study; however, there are some major differences
due to new information.
No one had ever been able to sort this family and our speculation is
still not proven but what we have been able to document does fall
into place for the first time. Our premise is that Alexander and
Francis Harper were brothers NOT father and son and all the available
documentation appears to support this premise. It is not known where
they were from but most likely Maryland as the names used in this
family are found there but no link has been made at this time. The
name Blaney is probably a key to such a link.
We feel that John who settled in what became Lenoir County was a
possible brother as the name Blaney was also used in that line. We
welcome information on the Lenoir County family to this project.
There may have been another brother who settled in Craven County.
Thanks to Roger Kammerer's newspaper research, the line of Alexander
is fairly proven but the line of Francis is not. It is done mostly on
process of elimination and family tradition and it could be wrong.
The Alexander line has fallen into place because of several Bibles
found recently and posted although by the third generation some links
start to get a little shaky.
Several people have worked on putting this line together for this
project - Julia Moseley Combs, Brenda Stocks, Ruth Fentress, Francis
Hodges and Martha Mewborn Marble and people who have posted the new
Bibles.
Documented corrections and additions are encouraged. Logical
explanations of why we might be wrong are also welcome. Any
information should be sent to the project manager, Martha Mewborn
Marble - [email protected]
