BLANEY Family of Perry Twp., Fayette Co.
We know that the family of Captain Samuel BLANEY and his wife Margaret FOY BLANEY are found on the 1830 census and the 1830-1839 tax rolls in Franklin Twp., and in Perry Twp. for the 1840 census, which roll preceded his death there in 1843.   [Source: Fayette county, Franklin Twp. Tax Lists 1785-1855; LDS Film #1449306 [The "Pennsylvania Line", shows: Washington Twp. formed in 1783 (location of the early HAGERTY family), Franklin Twp. was also formed in 1783; and Perry Twp. was formed 1839 from parts of Franklin, Tyrone, & Washington Townships.]
Samuel BLANEY was born 1759 in Boston, Mass. the son of William and Mary BLANEY.  Early christening records for the children of this couple were found in the "Records of the First Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts, which was gathered in July 1632."  The word christening or baptism is the term we use in our day, however the records of this early church, calls the term, "owned the Covenant".  Sometime after 1772 the Blaney family moved to New York City, where Samuel grew to his maturity.  It was there that he met his wife Margaret FOY.   She was a native of New York City, born there in 1772. Samuel Blaney was known by the title of Captain as he had been a merchant sea captain, and quite possibly served with the U. S. Navy during the Revolutionary War.  Retiring from that occupation, his inland-bound life begins in the 1830's,  in Fayette County where he pursues a life of farming and school teaching, which occupation he reportedly pursued for over thirty years.  Samuel Blaney dies1843 in Flatwoods, Fayette County, and Margaret FOY Blaney dies in Fayette Co. in 1859.  It is assumed that the couple is buried in one of the cemeteries of that county.

>From the county Biographical-History written by Ellis, we find a few references to Samuel BLANEY in his role as an educator:  "...Mr. Rittenhouse was much devoted to the encouragement of religious as well as secular
education, and at an early day built a school house on his farm, where in Samuel BLANEY, a famous teacher in his day, taught the children of these pioneers their early steps in the paths of learning."  [Reference to Captain
Samuel BLANEY: Source: History of Fayette Co., PA, by Ellis; page 558:] "One of the earliest school-houses in Franklin Township was a log building that stood in 1800 upon the Uniontown and Pittsburgh road, about forty rods south of John SHOTWELL's stone mansion.  It was the only schoolhouse in Franklin west of Flatwoods, and one of the very first in that section of the country.  it was built before the year 1800, but just when cannot be told.
Among its earliest patrons and supporters were Hugh SHOTWELL, Robert SMITH, John ALLEN, Jonathan SHARPLESS, Anthony SWAYNE, James MC CAFFERTY, William RITTENHOUSE, Joseph GHRIST, John PAXON, Jacob BAUGHMAN, William BURTON, Jacob WOLF, William CONDON, John and Robert PATTERSON, Amos EMMENS, Catherine SHANKLIN, and John SHOTWELL.   The first teacher was Samuel BLANEY, a retired sea captain, and a fine scholar for that day.  BLANEY was perhaps the most famous schoolteacher Franklin ever had.  He taught in and about Franklin for upwards of thirty years, and died at Flatwoods at a ripe old age."
