Moved to Georgia while young and came to Alabama about 1830 while DeKalb County was still part of the Cherokee Indian Territory. He and James Frazier, James and Willis Baxter and their families were the first white settlers at Lebanaon where Pat Frazier ran a saloon. James G. Dobbs is said to have killed an Indian in the saloon and had to leave the country. After the US Army moved the Indians out of Alabama, James G. Dobbs returned to Lebanon with his family and nephews David, Jobus and Elijah Dobbs.
