Rev. Oliver Hopson, a Protestant Episcopal Clergyman, graduated at (now)
Trinity College, resides in Conn. He married Caroline Allis, and is the
father of 8 children,--William (who died while an infant), William 2nd,
George (who is also a minister in the Protestant Episcopal church), Edward,
who was killed at the battle of Cedar Creek, Caroline, Elizabeth, Mansfield
and Mary.

The Twentieth Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans: Volume V H Hopwood, Josephus page 347 HOPSON, George Bailey, educator, was born at Naugatuck, Conn., Jan. 18, 1838; son of the Rev. Oliver and Caroline (Allis) Hopson; grandson of John C. Hopson, and a descendant of Sergeant John Hopson, of London, England, who settled in Guilford, Conn., about 1635; of the Rev. Dr. Richard Mansfield, rector of St. James church, Derby, Conn., for seventy-two years; and of Will
iam Leete, colonial governor of Connecticut. He was graduated from Trinity college in 1857, and from the General Theological seminary in 1863; was ordained deacon in the Protestant Episcopal church in 1863, and priest by the Rt. Rev. Horatio
Potter, bishop of New York, in 1864. He was appointed professor of the Latin language and literature at St. Stepben's college, Annandale, N.Y., in 1863, and was acting warden from August, 1898, to September. 1899. He was elected a member of t
he American Academy of Political and Social Science, and received the degrees of A.M. in 1874 and D.D. in 1886 from St. Stephen's college. He published numerous pamphlets and sermons. [p.347]
