A Josiah Allis is listed in the Whateley, Franklin Co., Ma 1830 & 1840 Census According to "History of Whately" by JH Temple he was Assessor in 1844 & 1846 & Representative to the General Court in 1853. According to the History of the Ct Valley V2 (RecBkPg68) he appreticed to a blacksmith at age 15. In 1836 went west to Detroit. He was involved in trading & lumber. In 1842 he returned to Whately as a farmer. He then crreated a broom factory. In 1855 he converted the farm to tobacco a
nd was one of the largerst purchasers of same. This reference contains a photo of Josiah.
