His German name was Johann Peter Bader.
The family moved to Loudon Co., Virginia where the family name evolved from Bader to Borders. "Bader" with an umlaut spoken by a German sounds like "Bodder" to an English speaker.
The family was from Jettenburg, Wuerttemberg, Germany, and arrived in Pennslyvannia on October 10, 1752 on the ship FOREST from Rotterdam to Plymouth, England.

In a 1976 DAR Booklet, Pierre Menard Chapter, Petersburg, IL:
Peter Borders, b 1767 Lancaster Co Pa, d 9 Mar 1859 in Menard Co, IL,buried Irish Grove Cemetery, 7 miles east of Greenview, IL, and 2 miles SW of Middletown, IL.

Peter moved to Loudon Co., Virginia when about four years of age, moved in 1803 to Clark Co., Kentucky, moved in 1804 to Greene Co., Ohio, and in 1828 to Sangamon (now Menard Co.), Illinois.

In 1803, Greene Co., Ohio,, Peter Borders arrived in the Beaver Creek area. He kept the first public house, and the first courts of Greene Co. were held in his house.

Peter applied for a pension on March 2, 1835 in which he said he entered the service in March 1781 as a substitute for Jonh May. He served 6 months in a company of Militia which guarded prisoners sent to Winchester Barracks, Frederick Co., Virgiinia.
