He died UNKNOWN in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon-Portland Convalescent Hosp.. Gertrude Denhart, daughter of Harry E. Denhart and Margaret Delaney , was born March 15, 1889 in Trosky, Minnesota. She died UNKNOWN.

R. Burns Powell, Musician, Attorney, Dies in Hospital


R. Burns Powell, prominent musician and attorney in Portland, died Wednesday afternoon after an illness of several weeks at Portland Convalescent hospital.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday from the Holman & Sons funeral parlors with burial in Lincoln Park Cemetery.
Mr. Powell was the son of the late James Monroe Powell, a member of the faculty of the Oregon State Normal School, and was born in Monmouth, September 8, 1886. He graduated from Oregon State Normal, taught in Eastern Oregon for some time and went to the University of Oregon from which he graduated in 1912. He came to Portland and continued his studies in law school, and was admitted to the bar in 1914. The following year he married Miss Gertrude Denhart.
While he has been active in the practice of law for the past 22 years in Portland, he was probably better known for his activity in music. He was among the earliest members of the Portland Symphony orchestra and for 22 years " held down the same chair" in the trombone section in this orchestra. He was secretary and treasurer of the musicians Mutual for some time and in 1934 was honored with the presidency. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi law fraternity and the Friar's club.

Surviving him are his widow; a son, Robert Denhart Powell, and a sister, Mrs. Laverne Powers of Huntington, Cal.

Pallbearers are: Ashley Cook, Frey Lysons, Dr. Julius Held, Joe Amato, Earl Stevens and Joe Ludwig. Honorary pallbearers: Lewis Wanzer, W.T. Neill, Paul Farrens, S.E. Skelly, James Elton, W.F. Magill, Magor Frederick Drake, Dr. Frederick Bleeg, and Robert Millard.

Burns Powell Called At Home in Portland; Funeral rites Today

SILVERTON, Oct 1, Mr. and Mrs F. M> Powell received word Thursday morning of the sudden death of their cousin, Burns Powell at Portland Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at Portland Friday.

Powell was for many years an attorney at Portland and was well known throughout the northwest as a trombone soloist, having been a member of the Portland symphony for several years. He was a cousin to F.M. Powell of Silverton on the paternal side of his family and to Mrs. Powell on his maternal side.
