He died 1867 in Moscow, Marion(Lamar)Co., Alabama. Letitia Holliday, daughter of Daniel Holliday and Patsy Knighton , was born abt. 1795. She died UNKNOWN in Moscow, Marion(Lamar)Co., Alabama.

According to the "Dictionary of Alabama Biography", John and his wife Letitia
"came to Alabama From Union District S.C.,and settled in Marion Co,where he established a plantation home at the site of old Moscow. A colonel in the military,standing 6 ft 4in.,a progressive planter and sound scholar,bringing into his wilderness home a library of classics,died in1867,and both are buried in the Armstrong graveyard." On the 1860 census of Marion County he listed as age 69,with$3,500.00 in real estate and $18,000 in personal estate; "Luticia" is 65; both born in South Carolina.
