Henry and Arminta moved to California WHEN? WHY? WHERE?

STEPHANIE: Between 1907 and 1911 according to Grandma Helen's journal

DONALD H. ROBINSON (11-94): We moved to Costa Mesa, CA about 1917 and lived there for a few years. Grandpa and Grandma Robinson were living with us.

About 1920, Grandpa Robinson and Dad were going to buy a dairy ranch in Signal Hill (near Long Beach) but instead they bought a ranch near Newport Beach. Grandpa Robinson had an automobile garage in Newport Beach and bought a house 1/2 block from the ocean. The dairy ranch was so - so. It turned out that Signal Hill was loaded with oil would have been a lot more profitable.

Then Grandpa moved the family to a home outside of Terra Bella, California (near Porterville) where he had 20 acres of grapes and also managed several acres of grapes for another man. These were Thompson Seedless grapes grown for raisins.

Henry became the sheriff of La Habra (He lived in La Habra in 1929 according to Sarah's obituary)

KIRBY (1-96): Henry Ayer Robinson was a Municipal Court Judge in La Habra, CA and also a city councilman in La Habra.

Henry died on _____________ from _____________________ and is buried in La Habra

What do you remember about Henry Ayer Robinson?
Donald H. Robinson: (Grandfather)
1. Ask him about being locked in jail when he was a kid

2. Grandpa Robinson's trip to Mexico and Grandma Helen's trip to get him back

After Grandma died, Grandpa went to Mexico with two women. He drove his Packard Touring Car (a straight 12 that went from here to Chicago). I don't know if he got sick or what but my Mom had to go to Mexico to bring him home.

The women got most of his money - which was probably the plan all along.

The money my Mom spent on getting Grandpa home was some she had saved to make a trip home to Chatfield to see Grandma Forster (her mother) and boy was she mad about that.

Kirby: (Grandfather)
1. Ask about being locked in jail when he was a kid.
2. Ask about grapefruit in the eye.

GRANDMA HELEN (Journal 1951): Since Mother and Dad Robinson's death, their relatives wrote few letters and though I tried to keep in touch with Urban's cousins I never heard from any of them after Urban's death. The fact that Urban and I became Catholic Converts may have been a reason for they were all Methodists.

What do you remember about Grandma Robinson? (Arminta Chapman Robinson)

GRANDPA: She ruled the house with an iron fist and was a strict Methodist. She had a heart of gold if you could find it.

GRANDPA: (Grandmother) Grandma Robinson was a very religious person. Was a member of the Methodist Church. Did not play cards, dance or drink and did not think too much of the Catholic Church. In fact when I went to Saint Mary's College she was upset. She was a very good woman and took care of me when I was a small boy.
