John Nathan EBSEN, 84, of Scottsbluff, died on Saturday, June 10, 2000 at his home.

He was born April 18, 1916 in Gordon, NE to Chris & Lillian LUCKE_EBSEN. He received his education in the Gordon schools and attended Concordia College in St. Paul, MN. He married Rachel KUXHAUS on October 2, 1937 in Hay Springs, NE. He worked for the city of Gordon and was self-employed doing cement and construction work before moving to south of Gordon to farm. In 1952, he moved his family to Morrill and three years later, to the sunflower area where he farmed. In 1956, he was a state certified custodian at the Banner Co. schools in Harrisburg for ten years. In 1996(error?1966?), he moved to Scottsbluff to work for Hiram Scott College. Later that year, John & wife bought and operated EBSEN Cafeteria on Broadway in Scottsbluff until 1976. He worked at West Nebraska General Hospital in the engineering department until retirement.

He enjoyed camping, cooking outdoors, fishing, gardening, nature and working with wood. He often played his keyboard and would sing when he had visitors.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Pat & Ken ROTH of Scottbuff and Bev & Jim SHAW of Rapid City, SD; daughter-in-law Audrey EBSEN_CLEVELAND and husband Harold of Rapid City; grandchildren: Ken & Nancy ROTH of Kearney, Lana ROTH of Scotsbluff, Stephanne EBSEN of Boston, MA, Larry EBSEN, Jr. and Andrea of Black Hawk, SD. and Catherine SHAW of Rapid City; great-grandchildren, Jared & Kayla ROTH of Kearney and one brother, Harold EBSEN of Gordon.
