Dear Jackie & Claude

I feel as tho' I'm in the same boat that I had you in. There is so much to write, that I don't know where to start.

Yes, we did enjoy our visit with Jim and his wife in Tulsa, but I didn't take the time to try to locate any of EUBANK_WELLS people. Time just seemed to get away to fast. You better believe we missed you, so much so that one Saturday afternoon I tried to reach you by phone. We were worried, especially not knowing about how much the Volcano was effecting your territory. When I coudln't get an answer, I immediately called Bea (Beatrice HYDE) and talked with her. She assured me that she thought you were O.K. but awfully busy with all the company that you have been having. That eased our minds.

Our spring here has been beautiful, with cool nites the temperature in the 50's and 60's and then during the day going up into the mid 70's and 80's, with just enough rain to make everything grow. The gardens are doing fine.

I would have enjoyed seeing the Album of Dorothy's. That's what I'm trying to put together and having far better success than I ever thought I would.

About the three pictures on the one page that you asked about, I'm not certain, but I believe they are all connected with the EUBANK family. The small picture of the girl with the necklace could very well be your grandmother Jinnie, taken about the time she and Jonas were married. What do you think? The other lady in the picture with the heavy frame, could be a sister or possibly Mary E. EUBANK and the larger picture at the top of the page, I would be afraid to even try to guess. I know that it is not Esther GRIEST_ROTH, because I have a picture of Esther.

About Aunt Alice and Uncle Cain. You know that she was the thirteenth born to Thomas and Esther, born 21 Feb 1855. Married Ambrose CAIN 15 Jan 1896 in Paris Illinois. She died 6 Sep 1943 in Brocton, Ill. and burial was 9 Sep 1943 in Embarrass Cemetery, Edgar Co. Ill. Ambrose CAIN born 31 July 1864 in Edgar County, Ill. He died 15 Aug 1948 in Brocton, Ill. I knew them both well. We always visited with Alice and Cain when we went to Illinois. Dad and I attended both funerals. By the way, Embarrass is Indian and is pronounced,"Embraw".

Now, the other page of pictures. Aunt Clara ROTH was Clara PANCOAST, the second wife of Johnathan G.(Griest) ROTH. Johnathan was the first born to Thomas and Esther. He was born 24 Dec 1936. First married Harriet PRITCHETT 28 Jan 1858, in Pickaway County, Ohio. Harriet PRITCHETT was born 31 July 1838. They had three children, Esther Alice ROTH born 21 Jan 1860 in Henry Co. Iowa, James Wilson ROTH born 4 May 1862 in Henry County, Iowa, Charles Edward ROTH born 17 Sep 1864 in Henry County, Iowa. Harriet PRITCHETT ROTH died 12 Oct 1864, in Henry Co.

Johnathan and the children came back and he married Clara PANCOAST 12 Aug 1867. Clara PANCOAST was born 18 Jan 1848 in Fayette County, Ohio. Johnathan and Clara had five children. Adah ROTH born 20 Oct 1868 in Edgar County, Ill. She died 18 Sep 1879 in Edgar County, Ill. Willard Paul ROTH born 18 Sep 1870 in Redmon,Edgar County, Ill. Married Nannie WILSON, (I don't have the date) Willard died 10 Apr 1943, in Edgar County, Ill. John Albert ROTH born 1 Apr 1878. Edith ROTH born 12 Aug 1880 (was a school teacher) died 12 Jan 1928 (diptheria) in Edgar County, Ill. Chester Hughes ROTH born 14 Sep 1886 married Georgia A. DEVERS I don't have a marriage date at this time. Chester died in Oct 1954.

Jackie, I don't know if the above will interest you or not, but it is what I know of the people in the pictures.

Willard only had the one daughter Dora (deceased) that married a guy by the name of HAMM. I don't know the older guy with the beard. The one on the extreme right is Charles E. ROTH's son (deceased) and the boy I do not know.

Chester ROTH and Family, back row-George, Chester, I don't know who the third one is, and thn Dall. Front row-Mary Alice, Glenn and Harry. George and Dall were both killed in Germany in WWII. They were both married. Geo. had two sons, but Dall didn't have any. Harry and Glenn both arrived home all O.K. Harry and I seemed to hit it off better than any of the rest. He is closer to my age. I'm sorry that I can't give you any addresses at this time. Harry is in the process of moveing, and I don't know where to write him myself. I'm expecting a letter any day now from him, with all the addresses. All that I know right now is that Mary Alice is up around Chicago, Glenn is in St, Louis, and Harry is moving to some-place around Mattoon, Ill.

Yes George did have light hair, in fact it was very blonde and the other kids all have very dark hair. Dall's hair was jsut as black as George's was blonde.

I want to thank you for the colored reprints of the snapshots. I really do appreciate them. I know that I am one lucky guy to have 4 such pretty cousins and all in the same family.

Another thing that I want to say is, you should be commended for the article that you wrote about "Sisters". I think that it is one of the most beautiful things that I have ever read. We could actually see inside you and we enjoyed what we saw. To us it was heart-warming, and makes me fel proud to be related to you. The way that I sum it all up, it is a beautiful "Ivory Tower".

You have heard from Carol NATIONS since I have, because my last letter from her is dated 29 Jan 1980. She said that she had trouble writing it because her arm was sore and swollen from a shot of dye that they had given her prior to taking some x-rays. I haven't heard from her since, even tho I have written to her.

Jackie, I haven't been able to find anything on the marriage of James Taylor EUBANK and Mary E. McCOY. but I am going to enclose copies of some of the things that I have discovered. I know that James EUBANK was married twice, but I didn't know to whom. Her name was Sarah DEMPSEY, and I believe she was the mother of James EUBANK, the Civil War soldier. Louisa and Jinnie had a 1/2 brother, so that's the only way it could be. What do you think? I have his record from from the National Archives in Washington.

It so happens that I have the same picture of Jonas and Jinnie that you sent. Art ROTH and his wife, Helen gave it to us when they were here last fall. Thanks for thinking of us anyway.

I'm writing this Wednesday afternoon and I just took your negative of the picture of your Mother to the photo shop Monday noon, so as soon as I get it back, I'll return it to you, rest assured.

Again Jackie, thanks for everything. It has been a long time since I have received and enjoyed material so much. I hope that you can use what I have enclosed. There will be more.

Your Cousin, Bob from Ohio
