The first known member of this family was born right as the Civil War got started in the Marion/Washington county area of Kentucky. His descendants have remained in the area, while others moved to Indianapolis. Like other African-American families of the era, this group is very poorly documented. In particular, records from the early days of the family are very incomplete. Use the results cautiously!

    General Notes: Services for George H. Parrott, 75, of 2018 Yandes, will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow in St. Rita's Catholic Church, of which he was a charter member. Parrott died Tuesday in Winona Hospital.

    He came to Indianapolis 42 years ago from Lebanon, Ky., where he was a farmer. He was custodian 42 years for Knights of Columbus Council 437 here. He was a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver.

    Friends may call tonight at the church. Services are being arranged by King & King Funeral Home. Survivors --wife Annie M.; sons George, Joseph, Thomas; daughters Mrs. Mary Catherine Turner, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Smith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew Catholic Church, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Survivors: husband Warren E. Turner; sons Joseph E. Turner, James R., Warren E., Michael E. Smith; daughters Mary Catherine Armstrong, Frances E. Smith, Joanne M. Busch; sister Marian R. Smith; seven grandchildren.     General Notes: James Edward "Jamie" Parrott Jr., 72, Lebanon, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Village of Lebanon Nursing Home.

    He was born on Nov. 29, 1940 to the late Lou Eva Porter and James Edward Parrott Sr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Mary Jean Spalding Parrott; a son, Richard Edward Parrott; three sisters, Anna Bell Johnson, Catherine White, and Rita Brown; and a grandson, Roland Lee Parrott Jr.

    Survivors include: two sons, Roland (Sherrille) Parrott of Lebanon and James Anthony (Marcia) Parrott of Ohio; two daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Smith of Lexington and Jacqueline (Norman) Parrott-Moore of Tennessee; one brother, William Lee Durrett of Michigan; three sisters, Emma Edelen of Springfield, Mary Justine Parrott-Allen of Campbellsville, and Martha Jean Grady of Louisville; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

    A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Father George officiated.

    Active pallbearers were Frankie Wright, Micky Wright, Gary Buckler, Robert Edelen, Bill Burnside, Travis Calhoun, and Roger Thompson.

    Honorary pallbearers were Joe Smalley, Leo Porter, Walter McKay, Tommy Downs, James Parrott, and Jerry Abell.

    Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    His visitation will take place on Friday, February 27, 2015, 10am- 11am, with the Homegoing Celebration commencing at 11am at Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, Peoples Chapel. His burial will take place in Sutherland Park Cemetery.
