John E. McGorder, 1911-2003, Tipton

John Elmer McGorder, 91, of Tipton, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Tipton Oak Manor.

He was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Eldon, a son of Charlie and Annie Manley McGorder. On Oct. 6, 1932, in Tuscumbia, he married Myrtle Williams, who died Dec. 16, 1997.

Mr. McGorder was a member of First Baptist Church in Tipton, where he served as a deacon. He lived in Kansas City in the 1940s. He was the lead man at North American Aviation during World War II. He moved to Tipton in 1956 and worked for Weber Shoe Co. as a maintenance supervisor.

Survivors include a sister in-law, Nita Williams of Newtonia and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son; three brothers, Dallas, Pete and Jethro; and four sisters, Queen, Marble, Edna and Beulah.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home in Tipton with the Rev. Paul Posey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jobson, Don Steck, Ken Stoll, Justin Stoll, Doug McKinney and Kevin Stoll. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Engelbrecht, Clyde Gerber and Carl Houston. Burial will be in Big Rock Cemetery in Barnett.

Friends may call an hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Community Hospice of America or a charity of the donor's choice.
