MRS NELLIE RUNYON, IVY RUNYON AND MRS. HELEN RUNYON PHILLIPS
KILLED LAST FRIDAY
A sad accident occured last Friday at a railroad crossing in Barnett, Mo.  Three persons riding in a coupe were fatally injured when an east bound freight train struck their car, completely demolishing it.
One occupant, Mrs. Nellie Maher Runyon, died before she could be removed from the wreckage. The two others, Ivy Runyan and his sister, Mrs. Helen  Runyon Phillips, were taken by ambulance to the Eldon
Hospital where they both passed away within a few hours.  This was a shocking accident in the community, the worst perhaps that has ever happened in it's midst.  The families and friends were greived and saddened beyond words.
Nelle Maher Runyon had been married on October 27, just a month before her death.  Her husband, Marlyn Runyon, in the U. S. Services, was stationed in Portland, Oregon, where his company had just landed.  He immediately started home.  Nelle  was past 17 years of age and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Maher of Barnett.  She was the first to pass away out of a family of ten children.
Ivy Runyon was the son of Joe Runyon of Barnett.  He was 28 years of age and  leaves a wife and 14-months old daughter.  His sister, Helen, 18 years of age, was married August 22, 1942, to Frank E. Phillips of Barnett, who is now in the U. S. Service and stationed at Fort Leonard Wood.  She was a teacher at Hubbard school this year, having attended C. M. S. T. C. at Warrensburg all the past summer.
Ivy and Helen were brother and sister of Nellie Runyon's husband Marlyn.
A beautiful triple service was held in Barnett Church Monday at 2:30 p.m.conducted by Rev.Curtman of Iberia and Rev.Lindsey of Barnett. Assisting  undertakers were the Hedges Funeral Home of Iberia and the  Rapp and Stevinson funeral of Stover.  The church service and interment was in charge of the Kay's Funeral Home of Eldon.
Nelle's husband` was delayed in his trip from Oregon and failed to arrive in time for the triple church service on Monday.  Because of this the deceased were returned to the homes of their parents where they lay in state until 2:30 p.m Tuesday, when a short service was held.
