1 NOTE Hibdon Calton.  On Dec. 23, 1925, in Purvis, he married Ada E. McCasland,

1 NOTE Mr. Calton was a farmer and stockman.  He was a member of the Baptist
1 NOTE faith.

1 NOTE community died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22, near Olathe, KA.  He was born
1 NOTE Aug. 21, 1909 at Linn Creek, the son of the late Thomas Cleveland and
1 NOTE Bertha Mae McCasland Calton.
1 NOTE He was married on Nov. 25, 1928 to the former Irene Belle Hess, who
1 NOTE preceded him in death on Aug 14, 1975.  On Sept. 5, 1975 he married Ruth
1 NOTE butcher Zimmerman, who survives of the home.
1 NOTE Mr. Calton was a retired farmer and welder and was a member of the
1 NOTE Baptist Church.
1 NOTE In addition to his wife he is survived by five daughters, Marie
1 NOTE Williams and Dora Merriott, both of Versailles, Louise Sidebottom,
1 NOTE Shawnee, Kan., Donna Hardwick, Basehor, Kan, and Barbara Meeker, Olathe

1 NOTE On Dec. 23, 1952, he married Dora Calton, who survives of the home.
1 NOTE He was a farmer and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles.
1 NOTE In January of 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was an
1 NOTE ammunition specialist in Lakenheath, England, before being discharged in
1 NOTE August of 1954.
1 NOTE In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joe Merriott and
1 NOTE wife, Beth, and Matt Merriott and wife, Terri, all of Versailles; one
1 NOTE daughter, Lorna Erven and husband, Kevin, of Goodson; one sister, Billie
1 NOTE Bradford and husband, Jerry, Versailles; seven grandchildren; one
1 NOTE step-grandson; and many other relatives and friends.
1 NOTE Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 23 at the First Baptist Church in
1 NOTE Versailles, with the Rev. Todd Forman officiating. Recordings of
1 NOTE "Consider The Lillies" and "Footsteps In The Shadows" were played. Organ
1 NOTE selections were played by Virginia Ross. Interment was in the Versailles
1 NOTE Cemetery, with nephews serving as casketbearers. The family suggests
1 NOTE memorials to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia. Arrangements

1 NOTE Edna was adored by her younger sisters, Alice and Anna and her  niece
1 NOTE Hazel. She used to sit them on a rug and give each of them a quart jar of
1 NOTE cream to churn into butter.  Whenever she would make a cake she would
1 NOTE make each of them a small bowl of frosting to eat.  She worked in Eldon
1 NOTE and would bring each of them a large bag of puffed wheat to eat and when
1 NOTE it was gone she would bring more.  She was an excellent cook and baked
1 NOTE cakes, cookies, and cinnamon rolls.
1 NOTE She commited suicide by shooting herself with a 22 caliber rifle.

1 NOTE Railroad before retiring.  He lived in Kansas City during the 1940's but

1 NOTE Surviving him are a son, Dallas Ray Cooper of Russellville; three

1 NOTE said no dice.  so Frank felt like it wasn't right so he ended up marrying
1 NOTE her.  He seemed to think a lot of her .  He
1 NOTE called her his woman.  John Andrew Mccasland had 3 brothers.  Jake, Bur,
1 NOTE and Del.  Bud and Del were railroaders.  I think Jake was a preacher, not
1 NOTE sure.

1 NOTE Mrs. Betty Lou Shackleford, 35, of Versailles, passed away Thursday,
1 NOTE July 22, 1982 in Idaho Falls, Idaho from injuries received in an
1 NOTE automobile accident there.  She along with Jack, her husband, two sons,
1 NOTE Greg and Jason also one foster daughter, Jill Harrison were returning
1 NOTE from a vacation trip.
1 NOTE She was born at Barnett on July 7, 1947, daughter of Charles Al and
1 NOTE Ada Evelyn McCasland Calton.
1 NOTE She graduated from the RII school system in Versailles.
1 NOTE On April 15, 1966, she was united in marriage at Versailles to Jack
1 NOTE Shackleford, who remains in Critical condition at Park View hospital in
1 NOTE Idaho Falls.
1 NOTE Mrs. Shackleford had formerly been employed at the Brown Shoe Co. in
1 NOTE versailles.  she was a member of the Gravois Mills Baptist church, where
1 NOTE her husband is the pastor.
1 NOTE She leaves her husband, Jack, two sons, gregory Wray, who will be
1 NOTE released from the hospital Thursday, Jason, who was released Tuesday; one
1 NOTE foster son, Michael (Mike) crenshaw of the home, one foster daughter,
1 NOTE Jill Harrison, who remains in serious condition, also of the home, her
1 NOTE parents, Charles and Ada Calton, Barnett; five brothers, John H. Calton,
1 NOTE Versailles, C. Frank Calton, Tuscumbia, billy D. Calton, Barnett, Lonnie
1 NOTE D. Calton, Terre Haute, Ind. and Bobby D, Calton, Barnett; six sisters:

1 NOTE The story of Frank and Alice (Peggy's) marriage is quite unusual.  It is
1 NOTE said that a brother *see bottom*  of Frank's sent for her as a mail order
1 NOTE bride.  She sent this brother a picture of herself and he sent to
1 NOTE Illinois for her.  Apparently the picture had been taken when she was
1 NOTE much younger and she was really good looking so he sent for her as a mail
1 NOTE order bride.  When she arrived she was quite older and her beauty was
1 NOTE somewhat faded so the brother said "no dice". Frank felt that this wasn't
1 NOTE right so he married her.  He seemed to think a lot of her.  He called her
1 NOTE "his woman". There were no children of this marriage, but Alice had
1 NOTE children in Illinois.
